Suns fans have run the gamut of emotions when it comes to the tenure of general manager Ryan McDonough in Phoenix. After a thorough tank job this season, and hopefully a major step forward the next, ESPN sources indicate we’ll be treated to at least one more season of McDeals.
Story posting now with @ChrisBHaynes: ESPN sources say Phoenix plans to keep GM Ryan McDonough in place entering final year on his contract
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) April 17, 2017
McDonough announced his presence with authority in year one, contributing to a Suns organization that witnessed a 23-win improvement from the prior season and narrowly missed out on their first playoff appearance since 2010.
After that season Phoenix dropped off the basketball map. 39 wins the next season, and 23 the next, led to the dismissal of head coach Jeff Hornacek. The Suns committed to a full rebuild that season.
In 2016-17 Phoenix finished with a 24-58 mark, manning the tanks early, but still giving us glimpses of what could be a very bright future for the franchise.
Entering the final year of a four-year deal, it’s time to have the discussion. Should McDonough be retained beyond 2017-18?
