Alan Williams named Majerle Hustle Award winner

Big Sauce gets a trophy.

Big Sauce brings an energy to the court like no other member of the Phoenix Suns. That energy was recognized this week. Alan Williams picked up the Majerle Hustle Award for the 2016-17 campaign.

After the Suns 120-111 loss to the Golden State on Wednesday night, Williams talked about adding a little hardware to his collection.

“It was big time. Most of the Phoenix greats or anybody that stayed with the Phoenix Suns for a while has a couple of these, so it’s definitely cool to put one in my trophy case. It’s awesome.”

Head coach Earl Watson complimented Williams’ play against the Warriors and the effort he’s put forth all season long.

“In 25 minutes. You can tell that this is a game of skill and talent, and sometimes heart and effort and determination are more important, a lot of times actually, and character, and he plays with it every night. You can’t say enough about…how about that story? He grows up in Phoenix, comes for a workout, gets sent home because he’s out of shape. Ten days later comes back and makes the team on a 10-day (contract), gets another 10-day. Plays well in summer league, gets signed for the rest of the year. Come out he gets the hustle award. Against Golden State: 25 minutes, he has 16 points and 17 rebounds. I mean the kid is writing a phenomenal story for himself and he deserves it, to be honest with you. It’s not coincidence, he’s been playing that way all year.”

If you’re going to catch the newest Majerle Hustle Award winner, you had better do it now. There’s just three games left in the Phoenix Suns season. Next up is a home date with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday. Tip is scheduled for 7p PT.
