For a brief period this week it looked like the the Phoenix Suns were going to skew #TheTimeline into a tangent creating an alternate 2017. Instead, guard Jonathon Simmons is looking for a new team.

According to a report from Jabari Young of the San Antonio Express-News, Spurs’ efforts to agree on a new contract with Simmons fell flat this week, at which time they went hunting for suitors.

Talks between San Antonio and Phoenix involved a sign-and-trade with Simmons, with veteran Tyson Chandler headed back to the Spurs. The two years and $26 million Chandler is still owed was enough to scare off San Antonio at the 11th hour.

Late Wednesday night, Simmons’ people asked San Antonio to renounce his rights, making him an unrestricted free agent. Thursday morning that request was granted.

Where will Simmons end up? Finish that episode of Deadwood you’re working on, then let us know before the #SummerSuns meet the Grizzlies in a few hours.
