Brandon Knight tore his ACL and is likely out for all of next season, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. For the Suns, this news could not have come at a more crucial time — and they have long been rumored to be dangling Knight’s contract to potential suitors.
According to the team’s release sent out, Knight’s injury occurred in his left knee last week while training for the upcoming year in South Florida. After having an examination with Phoenix’s Head Team Physician, Tom Carter, Knight will undergo surgery.
There were two options for Knight coming up. Knight seemed like he was going to be in the team’s plans this season as the backup shooting guard to Devin Booker and, in turn, help rehabilitate his trade value. If he wasn’t in their plans for this fall, I imagine they would have stretched out his contract if the market ran dry for him.
Now, this opens up a lot of minutes for incoming rookie Davon Reed to take control of a spot in the second unit, if no moves occur.
