An Exposé, à la Herbert and Lynch, On The State Of The Suns  Pt1.

A beginning is a very delicate time.

Know then that it is the year 2017. The known universe is ruled by the Padashaw emperor Sarver the first. In this universe the most precious substance is #TheTimeline. #TheTimeline extends life (as we have seen with McD), #TheTimeline extends consciousness (here's hoping Earl), #TheTimeline is vital to space travel (for we must fold space to the top of the NBA).

Kyrie Irving

No. Please No. He's a phenomenal scorer, has earned the title of "star" in the NBA, was a key component to a championship team and his addition would likely add 17-20 wins on the season. Still, no. A thousand times no. This team is defensively challenged enough as it is. The addition of Jackson and Bender getting more minutes will likely help improve to improve the defensive situation, however having both starting guards as defensive liabilities seems foolhardy. Furthermore, it is the author's belief that some continuity is currently required for real individual and team growth. The fall of house Atreides provides a useful analagy.

Recall that after the betrayal of Dr. Yueh, Paul was drafted by the Fremen of Arakis. The Fremen were at the bottom of the league. Great spirit, and they fought hard but were being subjigated by house Harkonen under the beast Rabban. It took some time for the young core to really gel.

Paul and Stilgar - Gelling

They were not ready to take on the Harkonens, let alone the Emperor. They had to work on it. But they began to see success by sticking together and learning from one another. Eventually they recruited top, veteran free agent Gurney Halleck. Gurney' was an excellent motivator and a great locker room presence for the young team.

"Mood's a thing for cattle and loveplay, not basketball!"

Gurney was the last major piece in a wicked starting five that went on the free all of Arakis.

The point is that the Fremen drafted well and developed the young core before getting that superstar piece to take them to the next level. There was little major change to the rotational players and a strong commeraderie developed.

To sign Kyrie now would likely stunt the develpment, not of one particular player but of the team. He is a ball dominant, scorer with below average defensive capabilities. The boards here are oft filled with laments of the team playing hero ball. Should we then import one of the league's hero balliest players? I think not. Trading for Kyrie now would be like the Fremen trading for Fayid Rautha. I'm Sting is a badass and all but I think we can all agree that would have been a mistake. That being said I would be all about facilitating a trade with New York to bring the young Frenchman here. I do suspect that is more or less a pipe dream.

Brandon Knight

I really feel for him. Talk about a really crappy couple of years. Going from near all star in the east before being traded to a team in a fair bit of turmoil still clinging, foolishly, to the dream of the previous season's surprising success. Missing most of the rest of the season to injury. One meh season before losing the starting spot, eventually getting benched for the season and now a season ending injury. Damn.

I was really hoping for him to start the season well so it would be easier to move him. Not just for the Sun's sake, but for his as well. In the right system and role BK could rediscover success. Now he is stuck here rehabbing for a year stuck on a team that wasn't playing him, with a fan base that is less than fully supportive. It's much like Leto Atreides after being traded from Caladan to Arakis. Things were good for Leto on the ocean planet. Leading a major house of the Landsraad, sporting a nice beard and developing new sound weapon technology, Leto had done well for himself and then the Emperor traded him the Arakis.

"Traded to Arakis?! The sleeper is so toaly going to awaken! Yeah!'

Where, dispite his best efforts, things quickly unraveled. Harkonen suicide troops and traps were problematic. There was an attempt on his son's life. Finally when it seemed like things were getting under control he was betrayed by Dr. Yueh and fell to the Baron. Bummer. Things were so good on Caladan, but that trade really threw a monkey wrench in his career. To add insult to injury the guild didn't even care about him

"You of course mean Duke Leto, his father" "I mean Paul!"

Here's hoping that BK right's the ship, has a speedy and complete recovery and continues to be the good dude he genuinely seems to be.

That's it for today. I have to go do analysis now. Bleh. Stupid grad school. I really just want to sell all my stuff and bicycle Europe or something.
