BREAKING NEWS: People associated with the Cleveland Cavaliers and people associated with the Phoenix Suns are discussing a deal involving Cavs All-Star guard Kyrie Irving.
It’s easy to slam the silliness that has been this Suns offseason. I confess that the Kyrie Irving talk is wearing on me a little. Let’s remember though that we’re not that far removed from a summer where the dominant discussion was how much Markieff Morris and Marcus Morris hate our favorite team.
So we’re going to see this to the end. Then we can get back to something we all enjoy. Watching Deadwood.
It’s Friday, and we may have a new Suns offer for Irving. Here’s how the story goes from Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN in Minneapolis.
“The Phoenix Suns are the team to watch on Kyrie Irving. Now, they won’t offer Josh Jackson plus that Miami 2018 first and Eric Bledsoe. I’m told they’ll do Bledsoe. They’ll do the pick. Plus, Dragan Bender.”
Are we getting closer or are we getting further away? The smart move for Suns general manager Ryan McDonough’s career is to do nothing. Enough fans have bought in on #TheTimeline. They’ll be patient while the Phoenix roster escapes the grip of adolescence and turns into fully functioning NBA adults.
On the other hand swinging and missing on Kyrie, missing being extending the Suns franchise record playoff drought, would probably accelerate the end of his tenure in Phoenix.
I say Cleveland has the weekend to smarten up. Then it’s time to move on.
