Phoenix Suns Ring of Dishonor: One new addition, many new nominees

The Lakers Fans get the nod today.

Only one new inductee today, Lakers Fans. I was surprised that the infamous 1969 Coin Flip didn't quite make the cut (67% is needed to get in and only 55% voted yes) but that's why we decided to put these things to a vote. Not everyone holds an equal amount of dislike/disdain for the same thing or person.

The voters also said no to the induction of Antonio McDyess and Michael Beasley which I can agree with. McDyess was kept from a meeting with former Suns teammates that could have changed his decision to return to the Nuggets (which is what we really hated) and brought him back to the Suns. And Beas... well from the moment it was announced the he was going to sign with the Suns I had my doubts that it would work out, although I hoped that it might.

For today I've rounded up what will probably be the final batch of nominees. Yes, I said final. Unless there are a flood of worthy nominations made in the comments section, I think it’s time to move on. Today there are six final nominees for the Ring that I felt worthy of inclusion in the voting, so let's get on with it.

Time to vote!

Tim Donaghy

For those who don't recognize the name, he was an NBA referee who plead guilty to gambling on games, had ties to organized crime, worked in the 2007 Suns-Spurs series and said games in the league were fixed.

The NBA Lottery

It's fixed, right? Regardless of whether that is true or false, it's been many, many years since the lottery has been kind to the Suns (1987 was the last time that the Suns actually moved up in the lottery drawing).

The 2008 Suns attempted remake

Yes, that was the season that then GM Steve Kerr hired Terry Porter as the Suns' new head coach, brought Shaquille O'Neal to the team and the Suns attempted to do away with the SSOL style of play.

David Stern

He deserves a nomination for suspending Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw on a technicality before Game 5 against San Antonio in the 2007 Western Conference semifinals if nothing else. I'm sure there may be other reasons but this is #1 to me.

Although this is probably the final round of voting for inductees, there will be one final Ring of Dishonor article sometime tomorrow with the final results.
