It is a busy time for the Phoenix Suns. There’s a lot of stuff to talk about. Not winning, mind you, but a bunch of other things.
Kinda, sorta general manager James Jones joined Burns and Gambo on Arizona Sports 98.7 on Wednesday to talk about those stories that have captivated the basketball universe.
On future Hall of Famer Devin Booker playing point guard for your Suns:
”I think he just wants to be a playmaker. When you’re with that big lineup, of course the focus is on Devin. But we have to allow him to be who he is: a high-volume scorer and a guy who shifts the focus away from the primary action.”
Hmmmmmm. So is Jones looking for a point guard?
”I’m going about our business every day. I won’t broadcast what we’re doing but every day we look at ways to improve our team externally, but more importantly, internally.”
Well, there’s an answer.
Many fans have been clamoring to see more minutes from rookie Mikal Bridges. The 2018 first-round draft pick out of Villanova has started the last three games and most recently logged 13 points and three steals in Monday’s loss at Philadelphia.
”More than anything, his approach has afforded him the ability to have an expanded role. But we also understand that this is a situation where we have to build him up to do it night-in and night-out.”
This author does not think Point Book is the future. More Bridges. No Beal, and no Wall.
For now, it sounds like Isaiah Canaan is back at starting point guard. Enjoy. The Suns tip off against Chicago is scheduled for 5 p.m. PST.
