Trade Deadline Open Thread: Will the Suns make a trade? Discuss rumors here...

NBA: Phoenix Suns-Media Day Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Discuss all the rumors here.

As of yesterday, Suns GM Ryan McDonough said he doesn’t see much of anything happening for the Suns. That he doesn’t want to trade any of his young guys, and we all know that’s really all the Suns have.

I mean, the Suns could try to trade Troy Daniels, Tyson Chandler or Jared Dudley, but all three are under contract through next season and most teams don’t need to load up on contracts with middling-to-less players. Plus, all three are good influences on the young team.

Will the Suns make a trade anyway?

Point guard

Right now, with Tyler Ulis’ lingering back spasms and Booker’s ribs, the Suns are down to G-League call-up Josh Gray as their only playmaker.

Maybe the Suns will acquire a functional point guard just to get through the rest of the season. You just can’t go out there planning on Gray and Ulis as the playmakers of an NBA team.

Shooting guard

They could trade Troy Daniels and his 41% three point shooting to a playoff team, but what would Daniels bring back? A worse contract (Daniels is only owed $3.5 million next season), or another second round pick the Suns don’t need? Might as well keep him.

Small forward

Let’s leave this position alone with T.J. Warren and rookie Josh Jackson, UNLESS the Suns can trade “up” on a long term improvement over both. I don’t see that happening.

Power forward

What are the chances the Suns decide it’s time to give Marquese Chriss or Dragan Bender, or both, a change of scenery? Even if it’s just to swap them for “like” prospects at the same stage of their careers. Clearly, the Suns aren’t going to become a playoff team on the backs of these guys as a pair on the same team.

Center

Either of Chandler or Alex Len could be traded, but for what? Probably no better than a protected second round pick. Len can veto any trade, and because he signed his qualifying offer for this season his Bird Rights would not go with him in any trade. He is an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Watch the day unfold here, but don’t hold your breath for anything big to happen.
