After recently telling Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s Bickley & Marotta on Wednesday that moves weren’t finished on the roster, General Manager Ryan McDonough followed through by doing some salary cap maneuvering on Friday morning.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Phoenix Suns will be sending Jared Dudley plus a 2021 second-round pick (protected 31-35) to the Brooklyn Nets for Darrell Arthur. However, Arthur will never play one minute for Phoenix as they will immediately begin the process of negotiating a buyout on the final year of his contract. Brooklyn could be doing the same with Dudley, too.
Also, per Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, the Suns had been trying to simply buyout Dudley’s contract since the first week of free agency. Instead, they ended up attaching a future pick to save $2 million on their payroll for the time being.
Ironically, Davon Reed’s guarantee date is today, so this could allow Phoenix to easily make the decision on picking that up now. Once the dust settled after the Suns’ Summer League performance up in Las Vegas, Reed was by far one of the biggest standouts on the roster who deserved more chances to crack their rotation for next season.
We will update you with more information as it breaks, but expect more flurries of roster activity very soon.
