What a sudden shift. As Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reported Sunday, Devin Booker will have surgery on his hand. Gambadoro says that the Suns’ star guard will miss training camp activities.

Booker’s injury caused him to miss the last 12 games of the 2017-18 season, even though Booker likely could have played in maybe the final few games from what I saw during pregame shoot-arounds.
If this procedure is minor, which the report seems to suggest, Booker may not miss any playing time, even in preseason. However, as mentioned, Booker’s exact return is not known at this time.
Training camp is critical for new head coach Igor Kokoskov to further implement his system, especially for veterans like Booker, who only saw a sneak peek from a distance at Las Vegas Summer League. Having their best player, scorer and playmaker miss any install time is huge in helping things start smoothly for Phoenix.
If Booker misses any regular-season action, the Suns’ offense likely runs through No. 1 pick Deandre Ayton with complementary action from Josh Jackson, T.J. Warren and their ample shooting off the bench.
Stay tuned to Bright Side of the Sun for updates on this situation.
