Vote for the Phoenix Suns All-Halloween Scream Team!

Some teams scare other teams. Some only scare their fans. We’re not talking about the former type today.

For most of the past decade, the Suns have not been a good team and they’ve actually put together some really bad teams during that time. The blame for that really falls on ownership and the front office. They are the people who decide what players to draft, to trade for, sign as free agents and which coaches to hire. When they don’t make their selections wisely, you get teams such as those that Suns fans have had to endure for far too many years.

As this new season begins, we all have hopes of finally putting all of those years behind us but, in honor of the upcoming Halloween holiday, I’m asking you all to take one last look back at those years. Why? So that we can put together the Suns All-Halloween Scream Team.

This team would be one that would strike terror into it’s own fans - at having to watch it - rather than other teams. I’ve often heard other fans say things like, “It couldn’t get worse” when speaking of the Suns but, yes, it certainly could have been much worse. Even bad front offices get lucky some times and make a few good decisions.

While some players over the years have lived up to or even exceeded expectations, many have not. Those are the players we’re looking to include on this team in an attempt to build the worst, most unwatchable team possible out of those who have been members of the Suns over the past 10 years... a team that fans would truly be afraid to watch play.

Why bother? Well, it’s almost Halloween so just humor me. I have a thing for dark humor.

I’ve narrowed the field of possible selections down quite a bit by only including past players that we - fans and the front office - at one time had at least some real hope for in contributing to winning. No second round draft picks, no throw-in players in trades, no 10-day contract players and no one signed to fill out the end of the bench are included. I also didn’t include players such as the Morris twins who many fans came to dislike but weren’t really bad players. Hopefully, there are no glaring omissions from the poll lists but that’s possible.

To form this Scream Team, there are 6 polls for you all to vote in to select the team’s starting point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward, center and head coach. Players finishing second in the voting in each poll will be considered as the backup at that position. Some of the players I did include may not really fit the description of “bad players” overall but I think all were at least a disappointment in some ways while they wore a Suns uniform. For the coaches poll, I’ve simply included every head coach that the Suns have had since Alvin Gentry was fired.

This is all for fun folks! Channel your inner Lance Blanks/McD/Robert Sarver voices, make your choices and let’s see just how scary a team to watch we can create... on purpose. After people have had a few days to get their votes in, I’ll post a follow up article with the results.
