Tim and Dave take a few minutes to go over the state of the Suns as well as the state of #SunsTwitter, including Dave doing yet again what he’s been accused of not doing. For those of you pining for it, here’s your #LukaFix. Tim, who was always a fan of Luka, also throws in a rant on this issue. It’s a must listen!
But then to the meat of the episode...
We then are joined by senior writer Sam Amick of TheAthletic.com (such a fun interview!) to discuss his recent article on the Phoenix Suns and head coach Monty Williams. I know that not all of you have subscribed to this paid service, though it’s really not that expensive to get one of the last bastions of true journalism in sports. That’s also where you will find this from John Hollinger telling Suns fans to relax because the healthy version of this team is really good. And that’s not even mentioning Gina Mizell and Bob Young who cover the Suns on the daily.
Whether you read the story or not, this interview goes into even deeper detail than what Sam wrote about Monty, the Suns owner, snake oil salesmen, and the state of the Suns franchise as a whole.
Sam makes some surprising admissions, including his updated take on the Suns signing of Ricky Rubio, his take on Aron Baynes impact and Devin Booker’s development, how great he thinks this little website is, his new-ish job with The Athletic and other related topics. I was especially shocked at the side conversation on Sarver.
“It’s not Devin and the misfits anymore,” Sam Amick said. “I like very much what the formula can be if they’re healthy.”
We end it by asking Sam if he still thinks the Suns will make the playoffs and that answer might surprise you too!
That and much more on this episode of the Solar Panel.
