The 2-Minute Drill is back! On our latest installment, the first this season, Suns rookie Cameron Johnson goes under the spotlight.
Phoenix shocked the NBA world selecting Johnson No. 11 overall during the 2019 NBA Draft, but the 23-year-old wing is proving the front office right thus far. Johnson’s ability to change the game immediately with his dynamic floor-spacing ability has helped push the Suns’ offense in a more modern direction.
Johnson’s shooting splits, especially on three-pointers, are absurd. Hitting threes at a 41.2 percent clip, including 50 percent (!!) from the corners, the former North Carolina forward has been a welcome addition in the Valley. And at this point, when Johnson gets hot, it’s almost impossible for head coach Monty Williams to take him off the court.
Looking back on June’s draft from an instant impact standpoint, netting Johnson and Dario Saric for the rights to Jarrett Culver was a coup for the Suns. It’s early of course, but Johnson is already settling in as a key long-term piece to Phoenix’s next great basketball team.
