Whether it ends up being James Jones or not, that process has now started.

According to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, co-host of the Burns & Gambo show on 98.7 FM, the Phoenix Suns have begun their general manager search.

Former General Manager Ryan McDonough was fired nine days before Phoenix’s regular season opener, which led to Jones and Trevor Bukstein sharing these duties.

Gambadoro also noted that the Suns plan to bring in new faces within their front office before the draft. One of those will be a President of Basketball Operations.

During his weekly radio hit with Burns & Gambo on Wednesday, Jones also denied Adrian Wojnarowski’s report about the franchise barely scouting draft prospects. Jones even mentioned that this upcoming draft class was very important, and they’ve had scouts at plenty of games (Murray State was one of the schools Jones listed off, which features a likely top-3 pick in point guard Ja Morant).

“I repeat, this draft is very important,” Jones said.
