For the fourth year in a row, Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker will participate in one of the All-Star Saturday events, this time as the defending champion in the three-point contest.
Booker is one of 10 contestants in the 2019 MTN DEW 3-Point Contest, the NBA announced today. The competition will be part of State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on Feb. 16 in Charlotte, airing on TNT and ESPN Radio at 6:00 p.m. MT.
Booker won last year after coming in third as a rookie.
This year his competition is:
- Seth Curry, Portland Trail Blazers
- Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers
- Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
- Danny Green, Toronto Raptors
- Joe Harris, Brooklyn Nets
- Buddy Hield, Sacramento Kings
- Kris Middleton, Milwaukee Bucks
- Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks
- Kemba Walker, Charlotte Hornets
Booker gets invited as the defending champ but is not having a good year shooting from distance.
Booker’s 32% shooting is second lowest in the field, behind honorably mentioned Dirk Nowitzki (29.8%). Lillard, Middleton and Walker are also shooting under 40% on threes.
The balance of the field is on fire this season, topped by league-leading shooter Seth Curry at 48.5%, though it’s on the second-fewest attempts of those named (134).
In all, the 10-man field includes four of the top five shooters this year, among players with 100+ attempts across 50+ games.
Second-leading shooter Davis Bertans (47.2% on 214 attempts) will not compete in the field and no one is quite sure why. Looks like he simply just didn’t get invited.

The 10-man field is rounded out, after the top shooters, with exciting players and long-range shooters... and Dirk.
Booker won the contest last year by making 20 of 30 attempts in the final round for a score of 28 to take the crown easily.
