The next step of the Phoenix Suns’ search for their fifth head coach in five years could be reaching a resolution soon. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Monty Williams will have his second meeting with Suns brass sometime this week. Williams, the Philadelphia 76ers’ lead assistant, is in the middle of a very competitive Eastern Conference Semifinals series against the Toronto Raptors tied 1-1.
Monty Williams is interviewing again with the Suns later this week. Big development. https://t.co/MHade2ZSDr

Last week, the Los Angeles Lakers sent a heavy front office contingent to woo Williams in Philadelphia in their second interview. The heavy-hitting names included GM Rob Pelinka, Owner Jeanie Buss, Joey Buss, Jesse Buss, COO Tim Harris and Kurt and Linda Rambis.
With Suns managing partner Robert Sarver now involved alongside James Jones and Jeff Bower, the team seems ready and willing to offer the former New Orleans coach their head coaching position when they meet again.
From the beginning of their unexpected coaching search, Williams has reportedly been Phoenix’s No. 1 target. And when we heard Jones speak to the local media following Igor Kokoskov’s firing, a lot of the details he said he wanted sound like qualities Williams possesses.
If this gets into a bidding war between the Suns and Lakers, will Sarver really beat out the Buss family? I would be stunned, but Jones told us last week there was no limit from ownership on pay.
