The Phoenix Suns have conducted draft workouts completely different under James Jones than Ryan McDonough. During the McDonough era, all draft workouts would be open to the media. The exact opposite happened with Jones and Co. outside of the first three days of workouts, which featured mostly prospects projected to go undrafted outside of a select few (Grant Williams, Zylan Cheatham, etc.).
Phoenix has been so secretive about their workouts that nothing has managed to leak outside of one, and we wouldn’t know the others if it wasn’t for Instagram sleuthing the past month-plus. From what we’ve gathered here on Bright Side, only three prospects have conducted private 1-on-0 workouts in front of Suns brass: Jarrett Culver (Texas Tech’s campus), Brandon Clarke (Suns HQ) and Coby White (Suns HQ).
We found out about Culver’s visit with the Suns after Chris Level of RedRaiderSports.com mentioned Suns management would be visiting Lubbock, Texas to visit with the productive two-way wing/secondary ball handler. Shams Charania of The Athletic later confirmed Level’s report, too. The Suns’ visit with Culver took place on June 7.
Less than 48 hours after concluding their visit on-site with Culver, Phoenix native Brandon Clarke flew in for his own private visit and workout. We wouldn’t have found out about this if it wasn’t for Clarke — who grew up a Suns fans after attending Desert Vista High School — being so enthused about being back home. Clarke’s visit with the Suns lasted the maximum allotted time from June 9-10, which included visiting with the front office on Day 1 before his own session the next morning.
Brandon Clarke was at the Suns’ facility presumably for a private workout. Phoenix also met with Clarke at the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago.

Even though it would be perceived by some as a reach, Clarke is the best fit for immediate impact at No. 6. pic.twitter.com/2lIc2aHL1L
The White-Suns buzz has reached fever pitch over the last few days, and we now know he indeed visited with Suns management right after Clarke from June 10-11. White posted on his Instagram earlier this month about being in a place that was 103 degrees before 12 p.m. AZ time. That sounds like Phoenix to me, which was confirmed by White himself on Wednesday morning in New York, via The Athletic’s Gina Mizell.
After those three names, nothing has leaked. Not even one peep from anywhere else. What exactly does that mean? Well, if I had to guess, this might show the Suns’ hand before Thursday’s draft. Is Phoenix’s top priorities Culver and White, then trading back to nab Clarke if neither are available at No. 6? Only speculating, but that seems like a very plausible scenario to be honest.
Stay tuned to Bright Side as we’ll continue to keep you updated on all the draft-related madness. After multiple reports from Charania plus ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, trading both T.J. Warren and Josh Jackson seems to be in the cards before the Suns are even on the clock.
