Experience and shooting, those are definitely the two main attributes Suns GM James Jones is coveting during the 2019 draft. The Suns acquired the rights to Jerome, who was selected No. 24 overall by the Boston Celtics.

According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, the Suns sent the 2020 Bucks pick to Boston in exchange for Jerome.

Last season for Virginia, Jerome averaged 13.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 39.9 percent on three-pointers.

Celtics veteran big man Aron Baynes was also included in this deal. Baynes will likely replace Richaun Holmes as the Suns’ backup center next season behind Deandre Ayton.

Phoenix has now selected Cam Johnson and Jerome, honing in on the winning traits Jones wants in his players. The addition of Baynes also fills the backup void behind Ayton heading into next season.

On draft day, the Suns have swapped out T.J. Warren, the No. 6 pick, the No. 32 pick and the 2020 Bucks pick for Johnson, Jerome and Baynes.
