It’s always great to see that a lot of people agree with me. As I’ve zoomed out from the Suns filter through which I sometimes have to view the league and spent time watching the Clippers, 76ers, Bucks, Celtics and Rockets more lately, the only team I can really feel great about as a championship favorite is Milwaukee.
The team that is about to win 70 games for the third time in NBA history. The team that features the reigning (and future) MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, as well as a formidable co-star in Khris Middleton averaging 24.9 points per 36 minutes on a .624 true shooting percentage. The team that is deeper than any in the NBA, with 14 rotation players on its stacked roster.
That’s the team that should be the clear favorite to win the NBA championship.
You guys mostly agreed. In this week’s FanPulse survey, Milwaukee got nearly double the portion of the vote of any other team. The Clippers and Lakers basically tied for second place.
Enough patting you folks on the back.
Your cynicism about the Suns is ridiculous. Somehow, while the 2018 No. 1 overall pick is improving greatly and the team’s best player is performing at an All-Star level, Suns fans will find a way to pout.
I understand this poll was done before Devin Booker officially was named to the All-Star team, but that’s just a little icon that will show up on his Basketball-Reference page. His performance was already worthy of the accolade.
That’s all before mentioning that by beating the Warriors this week, the Suns surpassed their 2017-18 win total, bringing them four victories away from the best record of Booker’s career.
To the 50 percent of you who are feeling down, flip on TNT this Sunday, check out Booker in the All-Star game, check back through the wretched seasons you all lived through the past four years, and put a smile on your face.
It’s basketball. Pretty good basketball, too, compared with what’s been going on around here lately. Enjoy it.
