In the NBA, the sneakers sliding across the hardwood are often as much a work of art as the game itself. In a new survey from Baller Shoes DB, the shoe most often worn by Devin Booker in games was deemed the most popular in the league.
A whopping 53 players use the Kobe 4 Protro as their primary shoe on the floor, with the next highest — the Nike Zoom Freak 1 — being used by 36 players. It seems Booker has great taste, as he’s among the majority here, both because of his bond with Kobe Bryant prior to the Mamba’s death this year as well as the comfort of the sneaker.
“Kobe started that low-top comfort with the Kobe 4. I’ve always hooped in Kobes,” Booker told Luis Torres Nice Kicks last year. “We play the same position also, so it helps a lot. Kobes and Hyperdunks are the only things that feel comfortable for me.”
These days, Booker also has several signature shoes with Nike, including a casual Air Force One model and a subset of Kobe sneakers designed specially for Booker, called the Nike Kobe A.D. Devin Booker PE.
Rounding out the Baller Shoes DB list were the Nike KD 12, the Nike Kyrie 15, the Nike Kobe AD Exodus, and the Nike PG 3, as well as many other infrequently worn shoes. Only one adidas sneaker appears on the list, and Stephen Curry’s Under Armour Curry 7 is worn by just seven players.
The Suns’ locker room is big on fashion and sneakers, so while Booker is the only one with a Nike partnership, Kelly Oubre Jr. is one of the only Converse reps in the NBA, and Deandre Ayton was part of PUMA’s attempt to put itself back on the map in the NBA world. Finally, Jevon Carter is one of a few pro hoopers who wear AND1 sneakers (always mismatched) on the court.
The world of sneakers is constantly changing and endlessly fascinating.
