There are more than 25 people that will make an impact on any franchise in a given year, but not all levels of importance are equal. Time to review the Top 10...

It is that time. It is time for the Top 5 in #SUNSRANK for the 2013-2014 Phoenix Suns. This has been an emotional roller-coaster of a ride that led to the team saying good-bye to some friends.

With all the moves, changes, and new direction that the team is headed in they did one thing that is very similar to last summer. They brought in nine new players. The roster is at 14 total players after waiving James Nunnally with only four players that logged a minute for the Suns last season. For a second straight season this is a brand new, again, with a clear path.

Importance is not created equal and the top five players on this ranking there were three individuals that were a consensus top six. Not quiet a consensus top five, but close.

For the most part the staff was in agreement on who are the "who's who" of the 2013-2014 Suns.

There is no disagreement or alternate opinion. This is definitive. All pre-season rankings that are done with no proof, nothing tangible, and pure opinion are clearly the most relevant analysis of a team or player. This #SUNSRANK is another example of just that. Or just the opposite...

Here is the Top 5!

*************************

No. 5: Goran Dragic (6.6)

Profile: 6-3 190 lbs. Point Guard -- Sixth Year Slovenia

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 20.7 MPG 11.5 PPG 4.2 APG 0.67 SPG 58.3% FG

Interesting Fact: The Dragon is in a class with Reggie Miller (25 points) and Sleepy Floyd (29) in terms of fourth quarter scoring in the playoffs. His 23 against San Antonio in 2010 will never be forgotten.

Analysis: I actually had Gogi #17 on my list (#11 not including all the write-ins that Kris made me delete - he can be a cruel taskmaster). Call me a hater, but I just don't see the current players being that important in a season that mostly serves as a vessel to the 2014 lottery. Talent acquisition, player development and trying to squeeze a scintilla of excitement out of a lost season are more important to me than players who very likely have no role in the next competitive version of Suns basketball, which is very likely several seasons away. To me Dragic is more moveable asset than point guard of the future. This is the blown up version of the team. The players aren't supposed to be that important. - Jim Coughenour

Important Question: Will he defer to Bledsoe as the on court leader? Dragic has always struck me as more passive than assertive...

No. 4: Aaron Nelson (5.6)

Profile: Trainer -- 13th Year Iowa State

Stats: Helped keep Steve Nash healthy to a tune of playing 94.8% of regular season and playoff games combined. Nash played in 60.4% of his games with the Lakers last season...

Interesting Fact: Nelson is Head Coach Jeff Hornacek's brother-in-law

Analysis: I personally had Aaron Nelson No. 1 on my list. The Suns' head athletic trainer the only member of the Suns organization that can be called the best in the business with little to no argument otherwise. He's proven how good he and his staff are over the course of the last several years. He rejuvenated/improved the careers of Steve Nash, Grant Hill, Shaquille O'Neal and Jermaine O'Neal among others, and although the team doesn't have as many old guys as the last few years, that doesn't take away from how good Nelson is at his job. Therefore, on my mostly arbitrary rankings, he takes the top spot. - Jacob Padilla

Important Question: When will Nelson have Channing Frye and Alex Len on the court at the same time?

No. 3: Jeff Hornacek (4.4)

Profile: Head Coach -- Rookie Iowa State

Stats: (Pre-Season and Summer League) 11-3 record and a trip to the first ever Summer League Championship Game

Interesting Fact: The pick that was used to draft Hornacek was traded by the Lakers, Clippers, and Pistons before the Suns decided to keep it. Players involved? Byron Scott, Ricky Pierce and David Thirdkill.

Analysis:

Important Question: Can he reach the young players?

No. 2: Eric Bledsoe (4.2)

Profile: 6-1 195 lbs. Point Guard -- Fourth Year Kentucky

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 26.0 MPG 13.0 PPG 5.9 APG 2.71 SPG 45.8% FG

Interesting Fact: Bledsoe averaged as many blocks per 36 minutes as Markieff Morris last year. Markieff is nine inches taller and plays power forward.

Analysis: I ranked Bledsoe lowest on the SunsRANK simply because I listed McDonough, Aaron Nelson, the Gorilla, Al McCoy and Jeff Hornacek above him on the totem pole. This year is about building the next great Suns team, and that effort must include the Brand and Culture of the Suns even more than the current player roster. If everyone, including Bledsoe, is available in the right trade, then they can't be more important than the Suns brand. Bledsoe has the chance to be a great all-around player, but rarely does a PG excel in the NBA without the ability to score when he wants to score. For every Rajon Rondo there's a Tony Wroten. Bledsoe will be fun to watch, but very frustrating at times too. Dragic may be better right now, and Goodwin and Len might be better in the future, but Bledsoe has the greatest combination of potential and production right here and now, so he's the best Suns player/asset on the roster. However, the moment he starts making $12 million per year is likely the moment he's being overpaid. - Dave King

Important Question: Can Bledsoe hit a jumper with consistency?

No. 1: Ryan McDonough (1.2)

Profile: General Manager -- Rookie North Carolina

Summer Stats: Traded (7 players) Let Go (5 players) Acquired (9 new players), New Coaching Staff (4 new coaches), and a renewed sense of direction.

Interesting Fact:

Analysis: Since Nelson took No. 1, I only had McMiracle at No. 2. I am apparently alone in this opinion. I mean no disrespect as he has gotten off to a tremendous start as general manager in Phoenix (acquiring Bledsoe, getting rid of Beasley, trading Butler for cap flexibility getting a first round pick for Luis Scola, and so on), but I had to go with Nelson. Here's to McDonough taking that top spot on my list next year after drafting Andrew Wiggins and trading for Kevin Love. As for now, I have no problems with my fellow writers ranking him No. 1. - Jacob Padilla

Important Question: Does he have any more bullets to fire?

Tell us what you think about #SUNSRANK. What did we get right? Wrong? Who did we miss?

Ohhh....

Write-In Ballot: Ping-Pong Balls (Jim)

Profile: White balls bouncing in a locked room with no surveillance that determine the future of 10-14 teams a year.

Stats: Worst team in the NBA winning the lottery, two times. Second worst, three times. Once before a team tied for the worst record won the lottery, so technically the worst or second worst.

Interesting Fact: Potential worst pick for the Suns if they finish with a bottom two record; the fifth overall pick.

Analysis: That's easy. It's the ping pong balls. More specifically that one magical ping pong ball that acts as a cantrip to the Suns drafting their next franchise player (sorry Alex). I know it's number combinations, but ping pong balls just sounds sexier. Maybe we can call the computer Ping Pong? You may argue that the lottery is not part of this year/season... allow me to retort. The lottery selection show actually takes place during the playoffs, plus... the end of the NBA year is prior to the free agent period - which means this is in fact part of the 2013-14 season. This is easily the most crucial part of the season. A #1 pick could be a franchise altering event considering this draft class, while another number four finish that culminates in another number five pick would likely feel a whole lot like kissing your sister. So maybe you're looking forward to a bunch of other factors being the highlights of the season, but those pale in comparison to what could be one of the most memorable events in franchise history - a #1 overall pick. While you're #ignitingthefuture I'll be #playingpingpong. BTW, I picked draft day #2... -- Jim Coughenour

Important Question: With David Stern out of the picture will the balls finally bounce our way?

What did you think about the 25 Most Important Members of the 2013-2014 Phoenix Suns? Did we leave anyone out? Difference of opinion in the rankings? With that, #SUNSRANK is over...

There are more than 25 people that will make an impact on any franchise in a given year, but not all levels of importance are equal. Time to review the Top 10...

Franchise impact should be done on the court. Entertainment, logistics, and fun aside the players and the front office are who should be the most impactful members of a franchise.

As we enter the Top 10 in the Phoenix Suns Rank for 2013-2014 there are six players total this high in the rankings. Six out of 14 players are this high in the rankings. I wonder how many other franchises have half their roster in the bottom half of a non-important ranking system?

Here is the first half of the Top 10 in #SUNSRANK:

*************************

25-21 << 20-16 << 15-11 << 10-6 << 5-1

*************************

No. 10: Marcin Gortat or "Whatever we get for Gortat" (9.8)

Profile: Otherwise known as Emeka Okafor and a 1st Round Pick (Top 12 Protected)

Interesting Fact: The Suns turned a former 57th Overall Pick, that is turning 30, into a future Top 20 Pick.

Analysis: While setting up this Suns Rank concept one of the staff writers ranked "Whatever we get for Marcin Gortat" as one of the Top 25 important people for the team this year. It turns out that happened faster than anyone expected and "what we got" turned out to be Okafor and a first round pick. The two pieces coming back to the Suns will not make any significant impact this season, but the trade does as nearly every string there was to pull has been tugged on. It is unlikely that Okafor will play any significant minutes for the team this year and this could be another Caron Butler move, with a wink-and-a-nod, before he is delivered to a playoff team.

Important Question: How much are you going to miss the Polish Hammer?

No. 9: Channing Frye (9.6)

Profile: 6-11 245 lbs. Power Forward -- Eighth Year Arizona

Summer Stats: (Pre-Season) In 16.0 MPG 7.8 PPG 3.5 RPG 43.9% FG 29.2% 3PT (7/24)

Interesting Fact: Channing has fries named after him at Majerle's Grill, the only current Suns player with an item named after him on the menu. They are delicious.

Analysis: Yes, #9 seems rather low for Mr. Frye, especially given his successful recovery from a frightening condition and his hometown roots. However, if we are ranking the members of this organization from to bottom in terms of importance, I stand by my ranking based on the fact that Frye will not make enough of a difference to either get us back into the playoffs this season, nor provide us with a solid foundation for the future. Frye's contribution will be stretching the defense this season and giving the fans someone they can feel good about watching and cheering for. There's no doubt Frye will not only help the team, but make watching games more enjoyable this year, which is why he cracked the top 10 in my rankings. However, I don't see Channing as being part of the vision that McDonough likely has for this team going forward. - Sean Sullivan

Important Question: Is Frye another "asset" or does he have a future after the All-Star Break this year?

No. 8: Archie Goodwin (9.6)

Profile: 6-5 198 lbs. Combo Guard -- Rookie Kentucky

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 15.7 MPG 6.3 PPG 1.6 RPG 0.6 APG 41.5% FG (0-11 3PT)

Interesting Fact: Shares an NBA birthday with Rudy Gay and Tyrus Thomas, the Suns are hoping to get more of the former.

Analysis: The reason I have Goodwin so high is that he is the first real player with elite potential to be drafted by the new regime, with the potential to one day be the face of this franchise. His importance has much more to do with the long-term implications, rather than the immediate ones, though I still believe Goodwin will be important to this year's Suns team as well by injecting them with an aggressive offensive mindset and energetic defense as well. Goodwin's development this season will be one of the biggest measures of success this season....much more than any meaningless wins this team accrues as it looks forward to the future, in which they hope to quickly return to contention. - Sean Sullivan

Important Question: Are the fans expecting too much from an 18 year old No. 29 Overall pick?

No. 7: Al McCoy (9.6)

Profile: Play-by-Play -- 42nd Year Drake University

Career Stats: 42 Seasons (3,313 games), 28 Playoff Appearances (261 games), 2 Trips to the NBA Finals, and more SHAZAM'S! than one person could ever possibly count.

Interesting Fact: McCoy is versatile, he did play-by-play on the weekends for the Arizona Diamondbacks in 1998, their inaugural season.

Analysis: I picked the voice of the Suns higher than any of my other colleagues. Maybe it's because I'm mawkish and grew up with him as a household voice... Maybe that's why he is called the voice of the Suns. He is synonymous with the brand to me. 42 years tends to establish that kind of notoriety. Despite that tenure there are still two glaring omissions in his storied career. One - Despite his four+ decades of service and his station as one of the greatest broadcasters in sports history Al still hasn't been honored by the team as an inductee to the ring of honor. Two - Calling the clinching game in a Suns NBA Championship. Considering he turns 81 this season time is running out. While the second feat seems worlds away from where the Suns are currently stationed, the first can, and should, be rectified by the team before it's too late. Doesn't McCoy rank among such non-players Such as Cotton Fitzsimmons, John MacLeod and Joe Proski... That's what I thought. - Jim Coughenour

Important Question: Already discussed it in my snippet. When will the Suns induct him into the ring of honor?

No. 6: Alex Len (7.8)

Profile: 7-1 255 lbs. Center -- Rookie Maryland

Summer Stats: (Pre-Season) In 15.4 MPG 2.8 PPG 4.6 RPG 0.6 BPG 37.5% FG

Interesting Fact: Len is the toast of the Ukraine as a former gymnast, a talented chess player, and the highest player ever drafted from the country (that distinction was previously held by Vitaly Potapenko, 12th Overall by Cleveland) and is the center of the future in the Valley.

Analysis: I ranked Len lowest on the staff, simply because I don't think he's that much of a key this season. I'd be happy if the 20-year old Len slowly progresses and develops good habits while doing so, and then comes in next year in a much bigger role. To overexpose Len is to invite catastrophe - either in terms of health (ankles) or habits (scoring over rebounding/defense). If Len develops highly this season, that's nothing more than a pleasant surprise. Len has the skillset to succeed - finishing at the basket, quick feet, jumper, size, length, agility, speed, nose for ball. What he needs to develop is strength and staying power - the guy has to build the foundation of a long-term player. Right now, he's a gorgeous house with an open floor plan and great natural light sitting on rickety stilts on the edge of the Jersey shore. - Dave King

Important Question: Can Alex Len stay healthy?

Come back tomorrow for the Top 5 in the #SUNSRANK series and follow along on Twitter!

Ohhh....

Write-In Ballot: Beasley's Gremlin's (Kris)

Profile: Unknown to the common eye, nobody can see them or communicate with them, but they exist in the world of Beas...

Stats: They were a key factor in 42.6% (two-point) and 31.3% (three-point) shooting. They bounce balls off the rim...

Interesting Fact: These Gremlins have followed Beasley around since early 1990 after their second movie (Gremlins 2: The New Batch) didn't produce the right type of monster. Instead they were tiny little nuisance that only get joy from knocking balls off of metal cylinders.

Analysis: Was there anything more entertaining last season than when Michael Beasley went on a rant about "gremlins on the rim" being the reason his shots were not falling. Either pure gold or horrifying insight into the psyche for Beasley. This is about the only thing that happened in the one full season that the Valley had the pleasure of hosting Beasley and his Gremlins.

Important Question: Did something follow one of the teams nine new players this year?

Who is the most important person in the franchise for the 2013-2014 Phoenix Suns? We count down 25-1 to figure out just that...

As we creep closer and closer into to the Top 10 most important people in the Phoenix Suns franchise there are no more trades, signings, or moves that can shake-up what we, the Bright Side Staff, have delegated as the most crucial elements to the teams success.

Sometimes people (or players) are not put in the best position to be successful. That was the case for the team last year from the players to the front office.

This year everything is starting to fall into place and the pieces are fitting. The team has an owner, a president, a general manager, a coach, and players that all know their role with the team. One is not trying to be the other and the others are doing their jobs, and doing them well.

Before we head into the Top 10 there are a few names to check off of the list:

No. 15: Marcus Morris (14.0)

Profile: 6-9 235 lbs. Forward -- Third Year Kansas

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 18.1 MPG 6.7 PPG 3.3 RPG 1.3 APG 42.9% FG 42.9% 3PT (9/21)

Interesting Fact: Marcus is the fifth twin brother to play for the Suns

Analysis: I had Mook ranked as the 9th player on my list, behind Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, Alex Len, Marcin Gortat, Archie Goodwin, Channing Frye and his twin brother Markieff. I think that's pretty fair, although it's a toss-up with his brother. The other seven players ahead of him are either better now or will be more important to the team moving forward. Marcus has shown some potential as a corner 3-ball shooter, but his slow feet and spotty shot-selection means he still has a ways to go before becoming a regular rotation player and positive contributor. - Jacob Padilla

Important Question: Can Marcus become the third play-maker the team desperately needs?

No. 14: Lon Babby (13.0)

Profile: President of Basketball Operations -- Fourth Year Lehigh

Summer Stats: Fired Lance Blanks, Hired Ryan McDonough, and helped manage perfect game of a summer as the catcher to his general managers pitcher

Interesting Fact: Lon Babby was a defense attorney for John Hinckley Jr., the man who accused of attempting to assassinate Ronald Regan. Then, 30 years later, he defended Michael Beasley, the man accused of impersonating an NBA player.

Analysis: Babby is a numbers guy. He is a relationship guy. He is a people person. Agents, if you didn't know this, are very good talent evaluators for their sport. They are the scouts that found a different avenue to make money in the game they love. That is all relevant for Babby in particular because during his first few years he failed at leveraging his strengths and unfortunately that accentuated his weaknesses. He has an eye for talent that he knows will draw money, but in the role of deciding who will produce on the court for the Suns the past few years he fell short on evaluating the person, not the player, the fit, not the talent. Now he can step to the side and work with General Manager Ryan McDonough on the details, financial impacts, and value of a player. Right where he should have been a few years ago. -- Kris Habbas

Important Question: What kind of moves can the businessman make now that he has the flexibility and the basketball mind he needs?

No. 13: P.J. Tucker (12.0)

Profile: 6-6 224 lbs. Small Forward -- Second Year Texas

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 21.3 MPG 8.1 PPG 4.4 RPG 1.7 SPG 45.8% FG

Interesting Fact: Tucker's first name is Anthony Leon, but "P.J." stands for "Pop's Junior" after his father who was a hard hitting baseball prospect back in his time.

Analysis: Tucker is the embodiment of what hustle and hard work can do for not only the success of player, but a team as well. Tucker is essential in giving this group of young players a role model with a "never say die" attitude, and a shining example of how to play with a chip permanently embedded in your shoulder. Tucker is a rare breed in the league, a rags-to-riches story of a player who earned his roster spot not on the merit of his talent or draft status, but through earning it consistently through pure effort and dedication. Although Tucker won't provide the Suns with a game changer this season, I think he is an excellent example for the other young players around him....Which ultimately means more than just wins at this point. - Sean Sullivan

Important Question: Where does get his minutes with Green and Marcus Morris on board?

No. 12: Gorilla (11.0)

Profile: Mascot -- 34th Year The Jungle

Career Stats: Too many trampoline dunks to count...

Interesting Fact: Other than Slamson, an Evangelical Lion, the Suns are the only Pacific Division team with a mascot. Seriously, an Evangelical Lion?

Analysis: I ranked the Gorilla in the top ten, highest of all the staff writers, and I stand by that. While the Suns team loses, they need to keep their Brand strong. And the best way to do that is bring the Gorilla back to prominence. Back in the old days, the hairy SOB was THE timeout entertainment and he made himself a legend as the best mascot in the league. These days, he's getting lost amid the Solar Squad, dancers and Tom Zenner. He still has a role, but it's getting smaller and smaller. Make a comeback, G! Save us from the Zenner! - Dave King

Important Question: Can the Gorilla rise back to the top?

No. 11: Dancers/Hip-Hop Squad (11.0)

Profile: 18 Girls Dancing and 14 People Hopping -- Forever Phoenix

Stats: Dancing and hopping their ways into the hearts of fans for years.

Interesting Fact: One of the dancers, Carin Malm, is a former Miss New Mexico!

Analysis: I actually went on a run of six things, some were write-ins, that will make the games more interesting than (potentially) the Suns on court escapades. I affectionately labeled this cluster the "making the bloodbaths more entertaining" section. I actually went 6-11 with these and had the dancers a little bit higher. Feel free to form whatever opinions you may knowing that other staff writers put them lower. Music, verve and choreography from cheerful, scantily clad women with team spirit. They work hard and I enjoy it. Sounds like a symbiotic relationship to me. - Jim Coughenour

Important Question: Do these girls have full medical to cover the depression medication they'll need to take to get through the season?

Come back tomorrow for 10-6 in the #SUNSRANK series and follow along on Twitter!

Ohhh....

Write-In Ballot: Michael Beasley's Empty Locker (Jacob)

Profile: About 6-7 feet tall, 3-4 feet wide, and full of the lifestyle of an NBA player.

Stats: Many memorable quotes, lots of negative energy, and a fair share of post-game meals.

Interesting Fact: The locker is now home to Eric Bledsoe.

Analysis: I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. Micheal Beasley was one of the worst players in the entire league last year and incredibly frustrating to watch (and play with too I'm sure). He's gone after agreeing to a buy-out (good luck to Miami, as he's their problem now) and that means the Suns made one of the biggest addition by subtraction moves in the NBA this offseason (I ranked it No. 3 on my list). The offense should be more free-flowing and the defense should be more cohesive without Beasley disrupting the Suns with his play on both ends. -- Jacob Padilla

Important Question: Has the stink worn off?

Who is the most important person in the franchise for the 2013-2014 Phoenix Suns? We count down 25-1 to figure out just that...

I'll tell you one thing. The NBA has no respect for deadlines or drafts as made apparent by the Phoenix Suns trading their entire roster yesterday and turning #SUNSRANK on its ears!

With the trades of Marcin Gortat, Kendall Marshall, Shannon Brown, and Malcolm Lee to the Washington Wizards this is a much different looking team than it was just 24 hours ago.

The initial rankings had five young roster hopefuls that had virtually no chance of making the roster, or at least three fifths of them, but now the roster stands at 14 and they can all call Phoenix home. The game is the game so naturally, the rankings move on.

Let's get to it.

No. 20: Shannon Brown (20.0)

Profile: 6-4 210 lbs. Shooting Guard -- Eighth Year Michigan State

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 10.3 MPG 3.0 PPG 1.3 APG 1.3 RPG 37.5% FG 33.3% 3PT (2-6)

Interesting Fact: Appeared in Nelly's "Just a Dream" music video... At the 3:15 mark, Brown has a drive-by moment.

Profile: Many people want to #letShannonfly but I'm not one of them. I just don't like dribble tantrums, and Brown can't help himself. His dribbles always end up in a contested shot for himself instead of a pass to a teammate in scoring position after he draws the defense's attention. I like Shannon personally, and he definitely got screwed last season, but I just really wish he'd go somewhere else to play basketball. He can be a key reserve on a good team, but suffers from overexposure on a struggling team. If it's a question of Shannon Brown or Archie Goodwin, I'd say Goodwin every day of the week and twice on Sundays. - Dave King

Important Question: Can Shannon catch-and-shoot without dribble tantrums first?

(Editors Note: Brown was traded to the Washington Wizards and waived on 10/25)

No. 19: Gerald Green (19.0)

Profile: 6-8 210 lbs. Small Forward -- Seventh Year High School

Stats: (Pre-Season) in 12.4 MPG 2.8 PPG 2.5 APG 1.8 RPG (0 total steals) 27.8% FG 20.0% 3PT (1-5)

Interesting Fact: He will forever be know as the last ever first round pick that jumped from high school directly to the NBA...

Analysis: Tasked with giving my thoughts on Gerald, my first thought was that I didn't have any. Upon deeper reflection I decided that I hope Green is basically irrelevant, which is very probable, because if he plays a significant role that will mean he's producing and if he's producing he's helping the Suns win games... which is bad. Green turns 28 halfway through the season and is a six year NBA veteran who also spent two years in Russia - every NBA player's dream destination. He started more games in 2006-07 (26) then he did in his other five combined (24). The two players he is most similar to through his career to date are Darvin Ham and Cliff Meely. The best case scenario is that Green rattles a few rims with electrifying dunks in the brief intervals he isn't affixed to the bench. - Jim Coughenour

Important Question: Does Green become the new Shannon Brown? #letGreenFLY

No. 18: Miles Plumlee (16.0)

Profile: 6-11 255 lbs. Center -- Second Year Duke

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 18.6 MPG 6.4 PPG 4.6 RPG 1.14 BPG 51.4% FG

Interesting Fact: Do you think you have a family trade? Miles' father, mother, both brothers, grandfather, and two uncles played basketball at the college level, minimum.

Analysis: I ranked Plumlee lower than all of my esteemed colleagues. There is no doubting Plumlee's athleticism and motor; however, I have never been impressed with his basketball ability, even back in his college days at Duke. I was one of the many laughing at Indiana when they drafted him with their first round pick, and I was proven right at least in the first year as Plumlee coudn't even get on the floor for the Pacers. I see Plumlee as a fringe NBA player; a Lou Amundson type that can be effective at times but overall really doesn't have much of an effect on a team. He'll make the team and get some minutes, but I don't think he has a long-term future in the Valley of the Sun. - Jacob Padilla

Important Question: How long will this older brother last with the Suns?

No. 17: Kendall Marshall (15.0)

Profile: 6-4 195 lbs. Point Guard -- Second Year North Carolina

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 10.4 MPG 3.0 PPG 2.0 APG 46.2% FG 42.9% 3PT (3-7)

Interesting Fact: Kendall has already found another job! Don't believe me?

Analysis: So I get to cheat as I am writing this after the trade, but in these rankings I was higher on Marshall than the rest of the staff, but not by much. He has been the most talked about Sun since 2012, not always in a positive way, and is now free to find a situation that better suits his skill-set. If the Suns were to have kept Marshall he would be the third point guard at best, without him, the dynamic does not change. He was not going to move the needle regardless. Now the Suns are down to three Team Options for their rookie scale players. On the most recent podcast both Jim and I predicted Marshall would be on the outs this year, not get his option picked up, and have a new team before the trade deadline. All of which happened 24hrs after the podcast aired.

Important Question: Over/Under 0.5 total NBA minutes played for Marshall this year?

(Editors Note: Brown was traded to the Washington Wizards and waived on 10/25)

No. 16: Markieff Morris (14.0)

Profile: 6-10 245 lbs. Power Forward -- Third Year Kansas

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 20.7 MPG 8.9 PPG 5.1 RPG 49.1% FG 66.7% 3PT (2-3)

Interesting Fact: Markieff was born seven minutes before his twin brother and draft about that many minutes before his "little" brother. Big brother problems.

Analysis: I've been fairly critical of Kieff for the past few years...but it's mostly because of what I believe he could turn into if he just set his mind to it. Keiff was drafted to be an enforcer of sorts, a hard-nosed defender as well as a rebounder and an inside scoring threat. Kieff possesses all of the qualities to be just that, but somehow modeled himself more after Channing Frye. But unlike Channing, Kieff doesn't possess the natural three-point shooting ability, which hampers his efficiency on the court. At times we see flashes of what he can bring, like his 12 point, 10 rebound performance against the Nuggets in the final preseason game. If he could find his true identity as a big man and play like that consistently, he could be a part of the future with this organization. - Sean Sullivan

Important Question: Can Markieff maintain the discipline and efficiency he showed in the pre-season from three-point range?

Come back tomorrow for 15-11 in the #SUNSRANK series and follow along on Twitter!

Profile: Arizona Sports 620, The Arizona Republic, and other outlets will try to keep the fan-base happy, engaged, and excited through 82 rough games.

Stats: Millions of words written to say the same thing, in a different way, but not really.

Interesting Fact: There has been more turnover on the Suns roster than in the Al McCoy Media Room. Phoenix, where loyalty gets you 20-25 wins!

Analysis: Guys like Paul Coro and our outstanding staff here at Bright Side of the Sun will continue to be an important part of the Suns this season as they cover the team and help spread the latest news about the inner workings of the organization, as well as analyze the various moves or changes that will inevitably take place along the way. This coverage helps forge a connection between the team and the fans, by keeping the very people who support the team interested and invested in them.

Important Question: Two Parter: Does Coro get his suits at the same place as Jeff Hornacek? And, is that a good thing for Coro or an insult to Coach?

Who is the most important person in the franchise for the 2013-2014 Phoenix Suns? We count down 25-1 to figure out just that...

In the summer the most important thing for NBA fans is simple; Rankings.

Not singling out the mother-ship, because all major outlets do these, but ESPN.com had their yearly rankings going 500-1 previewing the NBA by having a panel of experts rank every player in the NBA and then put together a composite. Two things from the rankings stood out as obvious. One, LeBron James is the best player in the NBA and 26 teams saw a player named before the Suns had their first in the 60's with Eric Bledsoe.

There were 26 teams that had a player named before the Phoenix Suns heard their best players name called. Teams including Sacramento, Toronto, Boston, Dallas, and Charlotte. Charlotte.

Of those 26 teams there were 19 that had at least two players ranked ahead of Bledsoe and the Suns. This all means very little considering each individual franchise goes on their own path to get to the same ultimate goal. There are a few teams that are one or two players ahead of the Suns at this point in the game. The organization as a whole is realistic. They want to compete, progress as a team, and develop the type of team that will eventually be at the adult table (more on that here) making waves in the playoffs again.

For #SUNSRANK as we are dubbing this five part series the entire BSOTS staff ranked what we considered the most important 25 figures in the organization 1-25 to create a composite.

This is 100% original and in no way is copying (or mocking) other rankings. Seriously.

No. 25: James Nunnally (23.0)

Profile: 6-7 205 lbs. Small Forward -- Rookie UC Santa Barbara

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 10.3 MPG 3.0 PPG 1.3 APG 1.3 RPG 37.5% FG 33.3% 3PT (2-6)

Interesting Fact: Avid bowler.

Profile: Nunnally has earned the dubious distinction of finishing dead last in this diversion. Somewhat surprising considering he's scored a grand total of nine points through five preseason games. We could dress it up with a litotes and assert that isn't terrible in the least considering he at least made it into the conversation, but it's still last and it's still the Suns. At 23 (which, coincidentally, is where I ranked him - I cleverly used alphabetical order of the first names of the final five... Dionte, Ish, James, Malcolm and Viacheslav... due to their relatively similar "value") years of age Nunnally will likely still have opportunities to make a roster at some point if he doesn't do so here... After all there's always Philadelphia, right? - Jim Coughenour

Important Question: Where will he end up playing this season? I actually had this typed before the news he was waived. It was funnier then...

(Editors Note: Nunnally was waived by the team Thursday, October 24th)

No. 24: Ish Smith (23.0)

Profile: 6-0 175 lbs. Point Guard -- Fourth Year Wake Forest

Stats: (Pre-Season) in 12.4 MPG 2.8 PPG 2.5 APG 1.8 RPG (0 total steals) 27.8% FG 20.0% 3PT (1-5)

Interesting Fact: Brother-in-Law is a former Deacon, played for the Demon Deacons, and graduated with a degree in "religion."

Analysis: The Suns ended up with Ish Smith as part of the Caron Butler trade that saved the Suns over $6 million in salary. Smith was never a need for a team with an already crowded back-court, but they gave him a shot in preseason just to see what they had. Unfortunately, it seems as though Ish is destined to be cut as he doesn't seem to bring anything unique to the team. The only way he may stay is if the Suns find themselves in need of a another point guard if they happen to trade Marshall, but even then, the odds aren't in his favor. - Sean Sullivan

Important Question: Is an undrafted Ish Smith a better option than 2012 lottery pick Kendall Marshall?

No. 23: Viacheslav Kravtsov (Slava) (22.0)

Profile: 6-11 254 lbs. Center -- Second Year Ukraine

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 8.4 MPG 3.4 PPG 1.8 RPG 0.4 BPG 100.0% FG (6-6)

Interesting Fact: As basically a nod to the tough spelling of his name, Slava was referred to by some as "Ctrl+V" or "Ktrl+V" because his name is a candidate to be copied-and-pasted by people consistently.

Analysis: "Slava," as his teammates and coaches call him has been a quiet, steady presence in the paint for the team. He is not a flashy player or a prospect with a high ceiling, but he is a serviceable big man that plays the center the way it used to be played. If the team had not drafted Alex Len or made a move for Miles Plumlee then Slava would be higher up on this list as a rotation player. During the pre-season Slava and Plumlee have basically been auditioning against each other for the third big man slot on the roster and other than shooting the ball (dunking the ball) efficiently, Plumlee has won this battle... - Kristofer Habbas

Important Question: What does Slava do well that his peers at the center position do not?

No. 22: Malcolm Lee (21.0)

Profile: 6-5 200 lbs. Combo Guard -- Third Year UCLA

Stats: (Pre-Season) N/A

Interesting Fact: Lee's sister is an assistant women's basketball coach for the Oregon Ducks and was with the Army Knights before, Shandrika Lee-Gerch.

Analysis: Malcolm Lee has yet to suit up for the Phoenix Suns after the Warriors forced Phoenix to take him off their hands when the teams swapped picks so that the Suns could draft Archie Goodwin. He was drafted out of UCLA in the second round a couple years ago and has appeared in just 37 games and scored just 140 points in two seasons. Lee flashed some defensive potential in Minnesota as a combo-guard, but his career has been derailed by injuries and he still hasn't healthy. I wish him well as he continues his recovery and looks for a new team. - Jacob Padilla

Important Question: How many games will Lee play this year, over/under 10.5?

No. 21: Dionte Christmas (21.0)

Profile: 6-5 205 lbs. Shooting Guard -- Rookie Temple

Stats: (Pre-Season) In 9.8 MPG 4.5 PPG 1.3 APG 1.3 RPG 50% FG 50% 3PT

Interesting Fact: Out-dueled James Harden in the 2009 NCAA Tournament, despite the loss, 29-9 in Christmas' last college game and Harden's second to last. Things have gone different for each since then, but Christmas has that to hang his hat on.

Analysis: Despite Christmas' respect for GM Ryan McDonough, the only way he makes this roster is if the Suns make a many-for-one trade right before cut-down day and he's left standing. It's too bad, since Christmas is PERFECT for promotional stuff in December. The most likely outcome is that Christmas is one of the Suns' late cuts and is eligible to be drafted by the Suns' D-League team to allow the Suns to keep Christmas' rights this season for a later call-up. Christmas can shoot the rock as an instant offense off the bench, but he just can't beat out the other guys at that position. It's a logjam that Christmas loses. -- Dave King

Important Question: Can a guy named Christmas play on Christmas?

Ohhh....

Each ranking will also include one write-in ballot from the writers. We have five tremendous write-in's starting with Dave's:

Write-In Ballot: Dancing Dad's and Grannies (Dave)

Profile: A group of 15-20 fathers and 15-20 grandmothers that are so passionate about the art of dance that they come to most Phoenix Suns home games to entertain. And entertain they shall with an array of moves that are like the love child of Master P (see dancing with the stars the two minute mark should do) and a high school dance breaking into an impromptu Electric Slide with contemporary music playing.

Stats: Twenty old men dancing and no hamstrings pulled. Success.

Interesting Fact: They are actually the best dance team in the NBA.

Analysis: I've got the Gorilla and Suns Dancers ranked in the top ten, and I rank the Dancing Dads/Grannies higher than half the Suns current roster. The Suns need to entertain their fans at the highest level possible this season, and these crazy dancers, along with the other squads, can only help the cause. In full disclosure, I don't overrate all the Suns entertainment. The blow-up dolls (Hairy and Harrison) are way down the list, and Ced Ceballos' replacement Tom Zenner didn't even make it. -- Dave King

Important Question: Can the Suns keep the fans interested during timeouts?
